You mentioned your project of searching for Blacksmiths - have you tried the Business Directories on the National Library and Archives website? They are a wonderful source of information and you can see some really interesting old ads as well. I research the sewing machine industry and have used them extensively.

Hope everyone is sharpening their wits, as well as their pencils for this forum... Now that family research is the # 1 'hobby' across Canada, I bet this forum will soon be humming away at high speed!
